Friday, November 26 – Kota Kinabalu, Malaysian Borneo – Bangkok, Thailand.
Getting out of bed this morning was painful – literally. Bunkbeds are not designed for people whose quads and calves are in agony from almost 2.5 vertical kilometers of heavy mountain trekking. Still, managed to get up, shower, pack, and head out for a day of touring around the city. Went to the observation tower (closed) and the KK bird sanctuary (open but deserted) for, er, more hiking. We wound up getting stranded in the rain there for a while, due to the lack of cabs in the vicinity. We then went to a mall for a while. For reasons best known to others from their home planet, Chris and Dups both bought bottles of a cloudy brown substance called “headhunter wine”. Haven’t tried it, don’t intend to. Back in town, we went for a banana-leaf Indian dinner, then said goodbye to the nice people at City Park and out to the airport for our Air Asia flight to Bangkok. Now for phase II of the trip!
